SELF-DRIVE (11 Days)

Proposed Self-drive tour : 11 days / 10 nights

Day 1:
Arrival at the Hosea Kutako airport in Windhoek. Collect your vehicle and drive to your hotel in Windhoek (approx.42 km). At the reception all necessary vouchers for your tour through Namibia will be available.
After checking in at your hotel, you can explore the city either on foot or by car. Admire the many colonial buildings dating back to the German occupation, e.g. the Ink Palace, which is the historic seat of the government, the white-walled "Alte Feste" which was once a fort and now a museum, and the Christuskirche with its graceful spire, which provides the city with a striking landmark reflecting the history of the country. In addition, three German-style castles add a romantic touch to the city.

Day 2:
Your journey takes you in a southerly direction, via the Baster settlement Rehoboth, Rietoog and Büllsport to The Desert Homestead & Horse Trails (approx.350 km).

Day 3:
Take part in an excursion into the famous Sossusvlei, a huge clay pan, which is surrounded by the highest sand dunes in the world. You will have the opportunity to ascend one of these huge dunes, an effort well worth it. Enjoy your breakfast pack en route.
Return to The Desert Homestead & Horse Trails and proceed to your next destination via Solitaire to the Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge (approx. 250 km).

Day 4:
After breakfast, travel through the Namib Naukluft Park via the Kuiseb Canyon and proceed onward to Walvis Bay. Here you will have the opportunity to view the seabird paradise at the Lagoon. Proceed to Swakopmund along the coast.
Sightseeing opportunities: visit to the aquarium, the museum, the Karakul weaving "Karakulia" or visit the crystal gallery.

Day 5:
Spend the day at leisure and stroll around in Swakopmund. 

Listed below are possible activities to be undertaken:

Optional:
Dolphin Cruise: which starts from the Walvis Bay Yacht Club, takes you through the harbour and lagoon area. If in luck, dolphins may be observed swimming alongside the boat. Seals and a myriad of sea birds can also be observed. On board the boat you will be treated to South African champagne or soft drinks, fresh oysters and snacks. 

This activity should be prebooked. (Price on request)

Optional:
Pick up at your hotel. Start of your half-day tour into the Namib Desert, the Moon Valley and the Welwitshia mirabilis plain. (Price on request)

Day 6:
Today drive via Usakos, Karibib and Omaruru to Erongo Lodge. In the afternoon take part in a game-drive with a sundowner on top of the mountains.

Day 7:
Depart for the world-renowned Etosha National Park. Overnight at one of the rest camps in the Etosha National Park (approx. 300 km). In the afternoon game viewing will take place at the different water holes.
Okaukuejo or Halali Rest Camp Accommodation only. (A restaurant is available).

Day 8:
Full day game viewing in the Etosha National Park. At various watering points you can observe the interaction of the prolific wildlife and bird-life.

Day 9:
Another day spent with a game-viewing drive through Etosha National Park, heading in an easterly direction. At sunset you will leave the Etosha National Park in the east and travel to Etosha Aoba Lodge.
Etosha Aoba Lodge (or similar) - Dinner/Bed/Breakfast.

Day 10:
After breakfast, depart to Windhoek. You drive via Tsumeb, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja to Windhoek (approx. 530 km).
Sightseeing options: Lake Otjikoto near Tsumeb, the Mine museum and if you travel via Grootfontein you may visit the Hoba meteorite. Shopping can be enjoyed at the Kavango wood carver's market at Okahandja or visit the ostrich and crocodile farm Ombo.

Day 11:
Drop-off your vehicle at Windhoek city office and transfer to the Hosea Kutako Airport.
End of the tour.
